Some men like it bare, as I do but others like a retro bush for some reason. The only thing I can be sure of is that I have become somewhat of an expert with pruning, I must say. I've tried all sorts of methods and tools but ultimately, for me at least, with thick hair, shaving with a man's shaver works best.
However, the blade has to be new or no more than a few days old to achieve optimum results. Forget the expensive creams. It's all a matter or warm water and baby lotion. Do however check before hand if you are sensitive to baby lotion because I've come across some women who develop a rash soon after using it.
Find a lotion that's best for you.
Take a warm shower before. Dip a face towel in a basin of hot water and let it set. Sometime after or during your warm shower, place the towel where you intend to shave. This I find will soften the hair and open up the pores. You can tell the difference by pulling out a single hair which you will find is not as painful as compared to doing it at other times.
With your skin held taut, shave along the grain to prevent a razor burn. Here is the challenge because the hair down there is not exactly as consistently placed as hair elsewhere on your body. So at times you might have to change direction of your shaving movement to accommodate the different directions of the grain. I've come to realise this the painful way over the years. Patience is key.
Soon after you are done, splash cold water (I mean really cold water like from the refrigerator) on the area. Dry it and rub a tiny dip of lotion over the area. This offers an excellent finish with no after-shave itch. It also has given me a better shave that lasts considerably longer (up to five days for me).
