According to a study by a University of Iowa sociologist, casual sex does not necessarily dilute the possibility of falling in love or becoming romantically involved.
Anthony Paik's survey of 642 adults in Chicago initially found that "average relationship quality was higher for individuals who waited until things were serious to have sex compared to those who became sexually involved in 'hookups,' 'friends with benefits,' or casual dating relationships". This was according to the press release on the study.
However, when Paik had controlled for people who had zero interest in having a relationship, that difference disappeared.
He said, "Couples who became sexually involved as friends or acquaintances and were open to a serious relationship ended up just as happy as those who dated and waited."
Apparently, the study did not pick up much evidence that relationships were lower quality because they started off as hookups. It suggests that rewarding relationships are possible for those who delay sex. But it's also possible for true love to emerge if things start off with a more 'Sex and the City' approach, when people spot each other across the room, become sexually involved and then build a relationship.

MS: Honestly, this isn't a big revelation. Many of us already knew about this either first-hand or from the experiences of friends. Of course this study didn't mention how long these relationships lasted or if they progressed into a live long union.
It's really a matter or timing and moods for me. Hell, we can be so strong at times while at other moments, we tend to be so fickle and emotionally swayed that if a particular song is playing at the time a man approaches us, it is not too hard to envisage ourselves locked into a mysterious bond that finds us swooning in bed over this guy a few hours later. Sometimes we hope he calls the next day. Sometimes we don't.
