FOCUS ON BASICS

An ex-colleague I met recently just went for a nose job and honestly, I never noticed it at all. It wasn't that she had a big honker or anything like that. I recall though that she always had the perception that it was not symmetrical.

It was a pity because I always thought that she looked fine - a few years younger than me but still she could definitely turn heads. This really is a good example of what false self-perceptions can lead to.

The funny thing is that she still had her messy hair. She could have spent a fraction of the cost of her nose job on straightening her hair instead. It was just naturally wiry and messy and it was obvious that she never took pains to look after it. She also had thick eyebrows that made her look scary at times but nothing a little grooming wouldn't change.

I think many women look for a change in the way they look as they age. I'm no different but I feel that the problem is that they sidestep the basics and believe that change equates to going under the knife. Sometimes, all it takes is a little more time on the basics and you can achieve wonders.

Better quality make-up, a good hairstylist, facial grooming, eating healthy and exercising can achieve wonders. How much will that cost? I gather much less than a nose job. It is an era of quick-fix - everyone wants it like yesterday.

Let's take a step back ladies and focus on the basics - the natural weapons that can be lethal if we paid more personal attention to them.

Missus Singapore out!
