I have been slim and even thin when I was younger but it was just me. I had always been thin but when I became a model, I was shocked that I was hardly the thinnest of all. In fact, I was no where near rib-showing skinny. I often thought that something was wrong about the way these girls were. I only knew later what they were up to.
So when I read about this so-called world-wide drive my major agencies to create a healthy trend, I was pleased. However, I've noticed that it has somewhat fallen on deaf ears. Flipping through some international fashion magazines the other day, I realised that no headway has been made. And then I stumbled upon a season of America's Top Models, I think it was season 11 and was shocked at how skinny these girls were. I mean ribs and bones were showing up all over the place it was unbelievable.
Tyra of all people should know having been in the business for a long time. So I'm really disappointed by how things have transpired. Just as I feel strongly about letting yourself grow into unhealthy proportions, I am equally against women, or girls, who just subject their bodies to such extremes. I know it is a disease but it has come about from all these perceptions that the media portrays.

What can we do? Lots.
A friend has stopped buying magazines that use such models. Spread the word and make your opinions heard about how they are a turn off. I know once the mindset gets stuck, it becomes a disease and they will no longer be aware of the harm they are doing. So if you think a family member or friend is heading that way, get help for them.
