THE PERFECT DATE

Nothing like zipping past the formalities and getting to the whole purpose for some. Check out the Video of the Week, sent in my Jackson Thifsen from New Caledonia. It gives a whole new meaning to a one-night-stand.

I've had several painful dates before where I wished they had suggested what the man in the video does. At least it would have spared me from a wasted night. I still get my meal, he still gets off and we never see each other again. The perfect date!

CHATTER OVERKILL

I was having dinner with my significant other the other night. We were treating ourselves after a hectic few weeks of assignments. Not that the madness is over but at least we managed to peel away for a reprieve.

So this other couple was next to us. Obviously on their first date judging by their fumbling. Besides, the guy was rather loud so we sort of picked up things as we were digging into our steaks.

This was one great example of what not to do during a first date, and I've mentioned it before. Men and women are guilty of this. This guy was unloading his job, family, and sports buddies on his hapless date a furious pace. It was unbelievable.

Then as we moved on to dessert, he suddenly realised and said, "I've been doing all the talking. I hardly know anything about you. "

Finally!

But two sentences later, we found out about all the pets he has had as a child, amongst other things. Looking at his poor bored date, we both felt sorry for her. You you tell she was hoping for something to happen to pull her out of there - like a fire or suddenly recalling that she had an appointment to have brain surgery.

Anyway, this is one of the worse things to do on the first date. Talk all about yourself and chances are you will be by yourself but a long time to come. A little babbling is normal when you first meet someone you are attracted to going into chatter overkill mode will certainly kill your chances of progressing any further with this person.

Share the spotlight and remember that good conversation is always a dialogue not a monologue.

DATING DON'TS

I was out with a few friends last week. It was a little disappointing because it was supposed to be a girls' night out but one of my friends Sue, decided to bring a new boyfriend along on the pretext of introducing him to us.

Sue is a divorcee with two children and is around my age. The other three girlfriends were all in same age group too. But this guy, let's call him Alex, was about 10 years younger than any of us. He was quite a dresser and pretty good looking. Charming guy really, until he started opening his mouth.

Meeting him led me to write this post about what you should not do when you are out with your girlfriend and her friends. It's really common sense. When you are out with your girlfriend's friends, one of the things you should not do is to comment on how hot another of her friends is.

Sue called me up the next day to tell me about how Alex went on and on about hot hot I was. Although I am not one to dismiss comments like that (especially at my age), I was aghast on hearing them in this instance.

Even if I am smoking hot (which I think I am, LOL), you should have the good sense not to mention it to your girlfriend, not even if you are kidding around. I don't think any woman will find it funny or amusing. In fact, you might probably make her angry or hurt.

Sue was definitely feeling that way. I'm betting she will never invite him to our outings again not because she won't trust us but more likely that she won't trust him.

The dating game is really about making the right moves at the right time and this is definitely one of the worse moves to make. Even if it is true that a woman has smoking hot friends, keep it to yourself. Your job is to make her the centre of your attraction and. You want to make her feel special no matter what.

Even if you think your girlfriend is secure enough to handle this piece of information, don't test it out because she won't be. Most women hate to feel like they are second best to their guy no matter what the tell you.

SUBTLE COMPLIMENTS

Men often go overboard when dishing out comments to their dates. One of the biggest mistakes (in my opinion) is when they start pointing out how hot a woman's body is.

Attractive women are most likely immune to such compliments and for the plane Janes out there, they would probably know where they stand and would think that the guy is stretching it a bit too far. The guy would come across as being patronising.

On the one hand, such compliments may be greeted with suspicion (READ: trying to get lucky) while on the other hand, a guy would genuinely want to make known his opinion of the woman he is with. On the woman's part - many are paranoid about being taken for a ride while, yet are always happy to receive  compliments about the way they look or dress. So what does a guy do?

If you want to stand a better chance and make any headway, compliment a woman on her eyes and smile It sounds more believable - which is what you are aiming for. Focus on inner qualities than outer beauty. Avoid saying something like 'You've got a great ass!".

Of course it also depends on how old the woman is. For us more mature ones, the rules are different. Well, actually, for us mature types, there are no rules. If you say I have a great ass or anything for that matter, I'd probably say something like 'well you haven't felt it yet so how do you know?"
