To Die For!

It was reported in a Tampa Bay newspaper that a young man from Ottawa, Ontario, had died while masturbating. (Yeah, I had that same expression too but it's not what you think.)

Apparently, after classes at a local college, he went home and prepared himself to masturbate. But it wasn't as simple as stripping and lying in bed or heading to the bathroom.

Instead, he strung a rope through an eye hook he'd driven into the floor, looped it around his neck in a way that allowed him to control the tension, and threaded it through a second eye hook, which he'd affixed to the archway above his head. Then he took the free end in his left hand and pulled.

The next day, the tall, blue-eyed man 23-year old failed to show up at the movie theater where he worked part-time.

When police discovered his slumped naked body a day later, they also noticed something else nearby - a laptop that was showing porn. The coroner's report - death by autoerotic asphyxiation (AeA).

This is certainly not new. Years back, actor David Carradine was found dead in the closet of his Bangkok hotel room, reportedly with a set of cords lashed around his neck, hands, and genitals. In 1997, INXS frontman Michael Hutchence died in a Sydney hotel; he was found naked, kneeling against a door, with a belt nearby.

In both cases, suicide and murder were among the initial theories but later, it was reported that both weren't seeking death or pain but pleasure. While many see this as only affecting an obscure minority, according to an FBI estimate, between 500 and 1,000 Americans die from AeA (mostly men). That's comparable to the average number of homicides in New York City every year.

MS: I've heard of this and when I was in Europe years ago, a couple friend of ours had actually showed us how it was done. Of course being a coward to that sort of thing, I didn't get involved. Besides, I was not that stupid. But honestly, even though they said it was not dangerous when it was done with someone else, I beg to differ. I mean, at any point in time, having a rope around your neck, strung from the ceiling is always asking for trouble isn't it?

Spray-on anesthetic prevents premature ejaculation in U.S. trials


The first U.S. trials of a spray-on anesthetic for the penis showed that it increased the time to ejaculation nearly five-fold, providing the first good solution for premature ejaculation, researchers reported today.

The findings are very similar to those obtained in a European study released in April 2009.

Premature ejaculation is generally defined as ejaculation that occurs within a minute after insertion of the penis into the vagina, causing distress to both parties.

The condition is thought to affect as many as one in three U.S. men ages 18 to 59, about twice as many as those who suffer from erectile dysfunction.

The new trial, led by Dr. Michael G. Wyllie of Plethora enrolled 256 patients at 38 centers in the U.S., Canada and Poland. Their average duration of intercourse was less than 0.6 minutes.

Wyllie reported today at a San Diego meeting of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America that men receiving the drug increased their intercourse time to an average of 2.6 minutes, compared with an increase to only 0.8 minutes in the placebo group.

The benefits persisted for the three months of the study and both men and women reported greater satisfaction with their sexual experiences. No significant adverse effects were observed.

MS: I seriously think that the problem highlighted is merely the tip of the iceberg. Anyway, the good thing about this one is apparently, no condoms are necessary to prevent numbing the woman. So I'll definitely recommend this to a lot of men. If they don't do it for themselves, at least think of your poor partner. She deserves a better time in bed. Condom Recall

Chinese authorities have shut down a condom plant, saying it was producing unsafe and tainted rubbers.

Now, officials are looking for more than two million condoms that were produced by this plant and sold under brand names such as Durex and Jissbon, according to Australia's ABC News.

Officials say manufacturer Li Anping bought wholesale condoms, added an "unknown" lubricant and then repackaged them without sterilizing them. He also had underage girls working in his condom factory, according to the report.

MS: Hey, I think some guys I know may have used these condoms. How does one recall condoms? I don't have any idea but I do suspect it will be a really sticky affair!

There seems to be lots of things getting recalled these days. A friend of mine actually asked if one could get their husband recalled?

SINGAPORE OR SCANDALPORE?

A reader from Singapore wrote in to complain about how one local newspaper is so focused on sensationalizing stories to make them seem like scandals.

He writes, "Every day when I read it, there is nothing but a headline on sex or some scandal. It's really frustrating and it seems like they are the ones making sex seem so dirty."

While I agree with what they do on a regular basis, it's really part of strategy to sell newspapers. Trashy as they are, they seem to be bending more towards tabloid reporting more than anything. We can't do anything to stop that BUT like I told this reader, you can choose not to buy it.

We can all exercise our right as consumers when it comes to what we read. He says that he reads it everyday! It's because of people like him, ironically, papers like this one thrives.

On the subject of scandals, well they are all blown out of proportion and the readers' letters whom they choose to publish seem to slant towards the critical. "The worse it sounds, the more people want to read about it," one publisher I knew once told me.

If we want to be sophisticated, we need to employ good judgment whenever we read newspapers - bearing in mind that the real story is often never told and it is mostly written with an opinionated view.

"Presenting objective views is a definite no-no when there is an agenda behind a story," my publisher friend would add. In this case, the agenda is consistent with what all tabloids strive for - higher newspaper sales.

We have to be mindful of the fact that selling a newspaper these days is really no different from a shampoo manufacturer who goes all out to promote and make all sorts of claims for boosting their product's sales.

The only difference is that while with shampoos, we often shop around and weigh our options, with newspapers, there is a misconceived notion that they can't be wrong. But they often are.

The scandals in Singapore pale in comparison to what you will read elsewhere. I mean they should not even be categorised as such.

Consider this in Singapore: A young woman who writes about her sexual conquests - that's a scandal. A college girl who has topless photos uploaded on an ex-boyfriend's blog - that's a scandal. A childless couple walk around naked in their own home - that's a scandal. A former actress who had leaked private videos of her having sex - that's a scandal.

I classify them as classic examples of invaded privacy. So what if they want to indulge in such activities in their private time. What is wrong with that? Have they hurt anyone?

It is their bodies and their lives to do as they wish. No one was underage, no one was forced to do anything they didn't want to, no kids or animals were hurt - so what's the fucking deal with this lot of Singaporeans who keep passing judgment.

If I want to get screwed by 6 guys on a pool table on a lazy Saturday afternoon after a friend's birthday party in May 2003 (just for argument's sake), what's fucking wrong with that! If you have your moral laws to uphold, then spend time ensuring that they are enforced in your lives - don't bother about what others do with theirs.

Can't we all just be more tolerant?

ENVIRONMENT OFFICER JAILED FOR SOLICITING SEXUAL FAVOURS

SINGAPORE: A former National Environment Agency (NEA) officer, who tried to solicit sexual favours from a 44-year-old woman, was jailed for four months.

Koh Hui Chong had caught the woman's 15-year-old son smoking in a playground in April 2008.

The 43-year-old officer took down the boy's details and told him that he would be booked for under-aged smoking and other offences.

But Koh later contacted the boy's mother and tried to get sexual favours from her in return for not taking any action against her son.

The woman reported Koh to the authorities, and a trap was laid when he turned up at her flat on the 6 May 2008. Three condoms were found on Koh when he was caught.

Koh could have been jailed for up to five years, and/or fined a maximum of S$100,000.

MS: Well it seems like the guy was just doing what most men would be doing - doing what he can to get a free lay. But I salute this guy for at least wanting to practice safe sex!
